Is Fios in My City?
FiOS is currently not available in all Cities or States. Some States have signed Legislation paving way for Telecom companies to offer Video Service Statewide. On the other hand, some still have the old Laws on the books that require Telecom companies like Verizon to negotiate Video Franchises with individual Cities and Communities. There are over 33,000 communities out there that fall into this category. Yes you read it right 33,000!

A typical Franchise negotiation takes from 3 months to just over 1 Year to finalize! That gives cable operators a forum to delay consumer choice and increase costs for new competitors like Verizon. At this rate you can understand why it is taking a long time for you to get in on the fun. Your local government and Cable companies are bringing out the big guns in your city to try and squeeze all the juice out of these deals before you can play. Question is, Who is Drinking the "Juice"?

Analog TV Broadcast Cut off

In 2005, the U.S. Senate passed a budget bill that calls for over-the-air television stations to cease their analog broadcasts by 02-17-2009 (this cut-off date has been moved forward several times previously). Following that date, TVs and other equipment with legacy NTSC tuners would be unable to receive over-the-air broadcasts. This switch-off would cause tens of thousands of TVs to go dark and would cut off many lower-income viewers of their only source of television. Lawmakers have proposed subsidizing converter boxes that would allow people to receive the new digital broadcasts on their old TVs. Further details on the transition to digital and the converter-box subsidy are murky, and are a work-in-progress subject to the political process.
