Verizon Wireless to Stop Wireless Spam and Protect Customer Privacy

 Verizon Wireless is continuing its efforts to protect its customers from wireless spam. Over the past several months, the company has filed several additional lawsuits against people and companies who sent unwanted text messages to Verizon Wireless subscribers, offering everything from discount prescription medication, to vacations, to stock information.
Those lawsuits, each filed in U.S. District Court in Trenton, N.J., include:

 Spurred by significant growth in deployment and demand for its fiber-optic-based Internet and TV services around the country, Verizon is hiring about 320 more employees for its state-of-the-art Fiber Solutions Centers (FSCs) in six locations.
The company is seeking candidates for management and associate positions at FSCs in Dallas; Hampton, Va.; Oxnard, Calif.; Providence, R.I.; Syracuse, N.Y.; and Everett, Wash.

 For the first time ever, consumers in Florida and Texas can have one service from Verizon that includes traditional phones, wireless phones and airtime-free calling between Verizon Wireless and home phones.
The new service, Verizon Complete Freedom, combines voice-mail systems so there's only one place to check for messages - and provides it all on one bill.
Coupled with any of Verizon's high-speed broadband Internet access and television entertainment options, the service offers consumers a true "home run" bundle of family telecommunications services.

 Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a statewide cable-franchising bill that received overwhelming bipartisan support in the state Legislature. The law, authored by Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez and Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee Chairman Lloyd Levine, streamlines the process for companies to obtain video franchises and opens the cable TV market to new competitors.
